Gérard Bertrand’s Cigalus 2022 (rouge) is what happens when a Southern French wine decides subtlety is for other people. This is a powerful, biodynamic fever dream of a red blend — Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, Caladoc, Grenache Noir, Cabernet Franc, Mourvèdre—proving that there is strength in numbers (of grapes).
This wine is unapologetically full-bodied without tipping into excess. Its smooth, integrated structure feels purposeful rather than flashy.
On the nose, expect black cherry, cassis, and a touch of warm spice.
