Visiting Loudoun County Virginia: Wine, History, Attractions and More on Winetraveler.com

I have a story about Virginia and wine.

If you’ve been following along through my wine adventures since the beginning (2012), then you know I started writing this blog while I was living in Arlington, VA and exploring Virginia wine country. It was truly my “start” in wine writing, and I consider Virginia wine my “first love” in the wine world.

Imagine my delight when I was invited to attend this year’s Governor’s Cup Reception in Richmond, VA, and then enjoy a day of wine tasting in Loudoun County in northern VA. It was a trip back to my roots in wine, and it was fabulous.

Loudoun County and I have a history. Maybe you’ve read the stories about my Aunt Susi? She lived in Purcellville for many years while I was growing up, and we would spend time in the area–back in the 90s. I loved it! This was probably where my love for Virginia was really rooted, and I have Susi to thank for that. I wish she could be here to read this, but I know in my heart she would be proud of my love for history, wine, and Virginia.

Visiting Loudoun County Virginia: Wine, History, Attractions and More on Winetraveler.com

Recently, I had the opportunity to put together a little piece about exploring Loudoun County for Winetraveler.com. If you haven’t been to this part of the country, I highly recommend a trip. It’s so close to Washington, D.C., and the area’s major international airport (Dulles) sits right in Loudoun for easy access to a wine tasting adventure.

The winning winery in this year’s Governor’s Cup competition is 868 Estate Vineyards, which is located in Loudoun, so if you needed more incentive to check out northern Virginia wine, here it is–the best Virginia wine of 2020 according to the Governor’s Cup judges is located here.
